Brianna had just graduated from college when she learned she had ovarian cancer.
“When they told me that, I thought that my whole world had just broken,” she says.
She was given six months to live. Her doctor gave her two options – hospice care or try chemotherapy. Brianna wanted the treatments, but she could not afford them. That’s when a social worker told her to apply for Medicaid.
“At the time, I thought you could only receive Medicaid if you had children. I was wrong, and I’m glad I was wrong,” says Brianna.
Brianna was approved for Medicaid and she chose Louisiana Healthcare Connections as her health plan.
“Without Louisiana Healthcare Connections, I wouldn’t have had access to care. They helped me keep going. I was able to get all my treatments,” she says.
Today, Brianna is cancer-free and working for our health plan as a Customer Service Representative. She works hard to give our members the same kind of caring support and daily encouragement that she received.
“I want any member calling me to know that you may not know me, but I care about your situation and want you to come out better on the other end of it,” Brianna says.
